New Dog on the Block

Recently I went to a home where there were two adult male dogs, a Husky & a Chihuahua. Adding to the mix was a young male Husky who had not been fixed. The adult male dogs were established in the home and the owner just needed everyone to “get along.” With such a dynamic, that is much easier to be said than to be done. When you have two males that have been fixed & established in the home and bring a new young buck into the mix, you are doing nothing but asking for it. In fact, during my consult with these three boys, I had numerous incidents where the older Husky was about to attack the young Husky. After interceding, the males calmed. When dealing with this issue, an owner must realize when you have established males in the home, then bring a young vibrant, well-endowed male in too, it is a very serious case. It is not “if” there will be trouble, the question is, “how soon” will there be trouble! If you face this situation, and you are not willing to rehome the new boy or girl, then put a muzzle on the aggressor! Now don’t get me wrong, there are dogs that avoid confrontation, and then there are those who crave it. If you face this situation with your dog, don’t hesitate to call a dog trainer!

Teaching dogs has been a passion my entire life. When I learned how to train dogs in a gentler way, the way the dog learned was phenomenal. This way of teaching is definitely a game-changer!
