Why Does My Dog Ignore Me When I Call It?

First off, as a dog owner, you must understand that a dog needs to learn respect of the Owner, just like a child for their parent. In order to achieve that level of respect, rules must be put into place for the dog to have less control over every member of the home, including the children. So, every person in the home must treat the dog in the same manner regarding feeding, what to do at the door, how to appropriately interact with the dog once there has been a separation, how to avoid misbehaving and attention seeking, stealing, recall and everything in between. Once those rules are understood, the dog will then become submissive to the family members, thereby, being a calmer dog, listening when a command is given and coming when called. It takes lots of practice walking the dog and learning how to train the dog to respond when he/she is called. The important thing to note here is that once you train a dog, you must continue that training for the rest of the dog’s life. Yes, for the entirety of their life! It is that important. The dog is inherent to obeying commands, it is just up to us to understand how to work with our dogs and teach them the right way to act and respond to family, visitors and other animals.

Teaching dogs has been a passion my entire life. When I learned how to train dogs in a gentler way, the way the dog learned was phenomenal. This way of teaching is definitely a game-changer!
